Webb Simpson captured his second win of the 2021 PGA Tour season at the RBC Heritage. Following a nearly three-hour weather delay, Simpson fired a final round 64, which included five birdies over his last seven holes, to capture his seventh career victory on the PGA Tour. Webb also won the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February.
With his victory on Sunday, Simpson jumped from his bubble position at No. 6 in the Ryder Cup point standings to No. 2 and further solidified his position on the U.S. Team. Webb is a three-time member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team. The 2012 U.S. Open champion earned an automatic qualifying spot on his first Ryder Cup team in 2012. He had to rely on a Captain’s Selection to compete in 2014 as he was in the midst of a four-year winless streak. As Webb returned to the winner’s circle, he played his way onto the U.S. squad again in 2018.
The top 6 players in the Ryder Cup point standings, who are automatic qualifiers based on the new criteria due to COVID-19, remains unchanged following the RBC Heritage. Brooks Koepka, who sits at No. 1 in the Ryder Cup point standings, notched his first top 10 of the season with his seventh-place finish at the RBC Heritage and remains atop the standings.
